As Warden of Rhodes House, Oxford, Don has been the global head of the Rhodes Scholarships and Rhodes Trust for the past three years. He is currently also visiting professor at the University of Queensland.

Don was previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Western Australia (2007–09), Warden of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØappCollege at the University of Melbourne (1997–2007), and Fellow and Tutor in Politics at Merton College, Oxford (1986–97).
